It is a 1.9 watercooled boxer engine, it is not registering anything on the temp gauage it is just that when you arrive at your destination the engine just seems to be HOT HOT HOT as in let it cool down for a bit before lifting the top off the engine bay. took it to the garage because it needed new starter motor and they said it was fine but I didnt ask if it was normal for the engine to get so hot on them.

Nothing o the temp gauge? what doesnt move...?
Thats not right and should be fixed asap...
the engines do get warm and as there is low airflow throught he engine bay can appear to be hot...
check the coolant tanks are topped up.. the one accessible throught he flap is the top up and should be to max... the one in the engine bay has a blue plastic cap (might have a metal one) and should be full of coolant..
Lots of info on the site in the WIKI and in the threads...
