Door mirrors???

First posting on your sight people and am looking for some help please. Bought a 1989 1.6td transporter converted to a camper. Question being, the mirrors are on the skin of the door and not on top by the glass, like all that I`ve seen (passenger side fell off when closing door). Can anybody tell if they are a mod or vw`s.

the mirrors are normally mounted on the door just below the 1/4 light..

The only ones that use a different mounting system are the "16" or "truck" type irrors that are bigger and mount up the door frame as well

That`s what I have seen on syncro`s and lt`s. So they must be a mod, problem is finding mirrors that will fit the 3 holes in my doors. Many thanks anyway
