radio fitting

is there a knack to fitting a radio, sorry I am over 40 so its a radio to me ice is what you put in a drink !!! I can not find one to go back into the dash. Whats behind the plastic bump that sticks out behind the radio slot? is it okay to cut a bit out of it? the slot seems long enough but no room for the cables. Thanks

Take out the ashtry and you will get access behind radio, you will be able to guide it past cables etc.

you will probably need a 'right angle antenna adapter', so the aerial lead doesn't foul the bulkhead.

Just had this trouble myself. I took off the large plastic trim from under the dash and I could just manage to get in to help 'arrange' the wires so the radio went in all the way. Like tonytech said I got an aerial adapter as well.
Your radiator is behind the plastic bump so be careful if you decide to cut anything out, you shouldn't need to though.

in mine i had the stereo cage mounted about half inch forward to give the stereo enough room at the back!

I had a sony in our old van, fitted fine (without the rear spike they come with) but I'm not so sure there was enough clearance for CD changer cables, only an issue if you want one though. The sony's also have slightly more cables hangine around behind them - handy extension if your cables are a bit short, extra clutter if not.

Got a Blaupunkt in my van now, fits fine and as their CD changer cables are different theres absolutely no change of cables not having clearance.

As said above you need access through the ashtray hole to position the heater cables, which can take some shifting out the way. Electric cables are also near by, theres a group in my van that quite tight and only seem to want to be across the radio hole, but I won eventully!

You may also find, in addition to the antenna adaptor, that you need right angle connectors for you phone/speaker connections as well. Put a JVC one in, didn't fit, connectors sorted it.

don't cut into 'the plastic bump' at the back of the hole - that's your heater matrix!
you can buy spacers that fit around the cage of the head unit to allow them to be fitted into shallow dashes from most motor factors or on ebay.
