Seat belt Problem - please help!!!

Post by kriss »

We have a Devon 81 T25. Bought a 3 point retractable seat belt from Just Kampers. We have a 3/4 rock and roll bed. Guy said he can't fit retractable bit (housing) as its too bulky!!! Its on the side nearest the door. He took the panel off as instructed but recons there isn't enough room. We need it for the child's seat.

I'm really struggling with this as i don't have any technical knowledge.

He said he could fit a non-retractable 3 point. As it hasn't got the 'housing' he said it would fit. I managed to find one on ebay, if the worst comes to the worst, will this fit...

fitting 3 point belts in there with a bed takes a lot of thought and patience... its not always possible...
Like some the child may have to ride in the front seat as thats the safest place to fit the seat etc...

There were some universal 3 point belts that were very long and could be mounted anyway up, but I think I had the last set GSF had and they are not made any more...

there should be enough room inside the interior panel for the "right" belt, but you may find it will have to be a Merc 307/transit type as these are generally very long.. the important thing is the retrator must be botlet to a substantiol bit of metalwork and with a spreader plate on the other side..

ok cheers. We have 2 small children, so need to put one 'baby' seat in the front and another in the back. The kit from Just Kampers has a set of photographic instructions for fitting these, so i can't see where the problem lies. Moreover, JK told us they will definitely fit!!!

We have a lapbelt in the back, but i think its against the law for a 3 year old not to be in a childs seat.

the inertia real bit should mount inside a cavity in the body, open the boot, whip cards off side walls (if not camper interior in the way...), you will see three holes in the edge of the body panel at the floor of the boot. bolt into these, or weld something in to strenghten one of them, and put the inertial real in the space behind. they do fit, I have one in each side. you will need to make a slot in the card for the belt to run through.

I would like a lap belt in the rear any chance of a photo of your set up.
It's nothing a great deal of time and money can't fix

i couldn't get them to fit either, despite JKs assurances. they went back and statics fitted fine.

i'm not sure that the ones you show on ebay would be long enough though.
i got mine made to dimensions supplied by me by a company who advertises in practical classics, but sadly i can't remember their name

We've got a camper with a rock n roll bed and have fitted two 3 point belts on the back seat. The left one on the drivers side goes through our rear cupboard, and the right one goes on the back metal window frame bit (I'm not technical, please excuse me).

When I get back from work (shouldn't really be checking forum, but hey ho  ) I'll take a photo of it and put it up for you.

We use the belts to put in 2 child seats for a now 3 yr old and 5 yr old. They are great, and mean you can have 2 adults, (and an adult conversation!) up front.

All the best, Schmood :P
