Fittig Sliding Door Repair Panels??

Post by hi_tower »

There must be plenty of folks that have done loads of these on here? I just received inner and outer sliding door bottom repair panels from J.K. and I've been pondering how they are supposed to fit all evening. Ive cut the bottom of the outer off up to the first swage line and I'm presuming the repair panel tucks under the the top part? I've noticed that the inner repair panel is an exact fit over the existing inner, just a metals thickness bigger. So is the inner repair panel designed to fit over the existing inner door panel? If I was to scribe a line and cut the old inner bottom off and butt weld the repair on it wouldnt line up correctly because the cross section of the repair is bigger. If you see what I mean? :?

Sliding door repair panels

Post by Fritz »

I had to complete a similar repair to our 1st camper a couple of years ago.......

The support panel was badly corroded on ours so I had no choice but to cut it all off and fit the repair panel, and then close the panel with the outter, which was spot welded within the swage line (then ground ,filled then re- finished )

I just wish I had made a profile template to help keep the shape of the door other than guessing where it needed to be during welding.

Also don't forget to fully remove the transit paint used on repair panels as it isn't etch primer and will rust faster than you can ever imagine ,,,,,,another mistake I made...
