Possible Fuel Blockage ?????????????

Post by mearnsy »

Just driving back today from short trip to California Park, Finchampstead and the camper just died.

Tried turning it over and nothing, there was a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust but the engine wouldnt start.

Eventually it started but then died again...i am thinking there may be a fuel blockage in the carb??

Good old Green Flag got me home but i need to sort it for Brighton Breeze.

Any help gladly received :?

Evening!
Take it you have a petrol engine then by the mention of the carb.
Shouldnt smoke though... Would check compressions with a compression tester as my first port of call. Also check the air filter, not for the quality of the filter but to make sure oil from the crankcase hasnt got into there. That would foul the plugs and stop it from running if it entered the engine.

Thanks, if there was oil in the air filter what would this mean??

High crankcase pressure due to worn or damaged piston rings or too much oil in sump. Gets splashed around too much and makes its way through to the air filter via the crankcase breather hose.
Keep us informed...
Hope this helps.

Possible Fuel Blockage

Post by mearnsy »

Well, it started a couple of times this evening, but then died after a few revs. Theres no oil in the air filter, fuel pump works, couldnt get the plugs out due to wrong socket.

I di notice some oil at the base of the tall black thing that sits to the right of the fuel pump, where the air filter connects.

I am still thinking carb, but what do i know??

Any ideas welcome again. :?

Change fuel filter, check for fuel at carbs, jump start the battery and just keep turning it over. Use easy start and if it fire then its definately a fuel issue and not a spark/coil issue.

I just had this problem after running low on fuel.

Hacksaw, it is a single carb, will it still have a balance pipe??
