Hi all
After any recommendations for what tyres to fit on standard wheels
They need to rated for a fully loaded camper and although they should last I also want good performance and not too noisy

Tyres for standard rims

Post by Bowton Lad »

Last week while my camper was in for it's MOT Re-test I wandered into a small famliy owned tyre fitting garage to enquire about prices of tyres for standard rims ie: 185 R 14 C (C = Commercial).

There are 3 Barum Cargo 0R56s fitted to my van so I asked about that make. The current tyre on the market is the Vantis which I was told is £49.00 ''all in'' (fitted, balanced etc).

I went back to the MOT place & asked the same question. They would do the Barum Vantis @ £39.88 all in. :D

The MOT place (P&T Motors in Leigh) gave me a list of tyre prices - mostly brands not specific tyres. All price are ''all in''.

Enduro £35.60
Barum Vantis £39.88
Falken £42.89
Dunlop £47.00
Pirelli £49.23
Continental £49.13
Bridgestone £50.02
Michelin £58.46

I'm going to go for the Barum Vantis. It is manufactured by Continental & is considered to be a mid price tyre & of good quality. :)

I have the Barum Vantis on my van and am very pleased with them. I would go for them as they are backed by a good brand (Continential) and have a reasonable price.

Tyres for standard rims

Hi, I've just had 4 Hankook RA08 tyres fitted for £188 all in (balanced, new valves, old tyre disposal etc) at Camskill, Whitehaven. These tyres are OEM quality and seem to be highly rated on the wiki. Whilst it is too early to give a worthwhile opinion it was obvious on the 35 mile drive home that they were a good deal quieter than my previous Firestone/Michelin set-up.

Continental Vanco's... great tyre, last and grip well... Toyo's that replaced them are ok... but no where as good as the vanco's...
