Help required Binding brakes & slack handbrake fail for

Post by nesty »

Hi All

I need some help/advice urgently. I need to address some fail points for MOT. I have replaced my rear brakes/shoes, cylinders spring etc, as per instruction on Wiki. However I am getting a slack handbrake, also one side is slightly binding. Obviously I haven't done something right.

Can someone tell me what way around the adjuster bar is supposed to go? Item numbered 1 in photo, what end is that supposed to go. Also what way around is A and B supposed to go? Is B supposed to be facing towards me? I am having trouble trying to get tension in the clip that goes from the handbrake arm and keeps tension in the adjuster bar wheel.

I have a feeling that this might be causing the binding? Though everything is brand new so must be something I have done? First time I have done rear brakes on these.

Thanks

Help required Binding brakes & slack handbrake fail for

Hi

When i took mine apart [tho i am no mechanic!!] #1 goes at the back of the van, and B goes on the outside.

I found that i needed to slacken off quite a lot when i reassembled and then tightened them up, which was a sod after a little drive

Good luck

These are self adjusting, which is what the 'toothed cog' is for. If when re-assembled the handbrake is slack, just pull and release the handbrake lever about 20-30 times and it will self adjust.

thanks for your replies. I got home tonight and I was looking through Haynes and I have spotted a balls up I've made.

I haven't put the operating spring on to the adjuster spring end, this is why the adjuster spring keeps flapping about and doesn't have tension. I feel a right idiot. lol
