Squeaky noise from front N/S

Post by Jack-the-Bug »

Hi
After about 30 mins driving I got a squeaking noise from the front N/S which increases with the speed of the van. "eek eek" at 10mph "eek eek eek eek" at 20 mph etc. If you move steering slightly to left it stops or if you hovver foot over brake pedal slightly it stops.
Not a technical person really but would like to try and have a go at sorting it out, but don't fancy lubricating the wrong thing etc.

Thanks for your help

I would suspect a sticking break caliper.
Pad doesn't retract fully and rubs on the disk ever so slightly.

Next time, to confirm, compare temperatures of the rims on the front. (or if you can poke your finger through, the temperature of the brake disk ...careful, may be VERY hot). If one is hotter than the other after a bit of a drive then it's a sticky brake at fault.

Yep.. or the brakes havent been serviced for a long time and crud has built up..
Just need a good clean and copperslip the mounting points..
A small chamfer on the leading edge of the pads can help too..
If you are not happy doing the work, pay someone to do it..
