Handbrake Ferrule into backplate

Post by nesty »

Hi

I am putting in a new backplate. I am trying to re-attach the handbrake cable. Though the hole at the back.

However the old angled peice of the prevouis rotten blackplate came away and bonded it's self together with the handbrake cable ferrule.

Does anyone know of anyway to try and break the 2 apart?

Basically item 1 has come of old backplate and welded itself against item 2. I have tried molegrips to shift part them, but just not budgen off.

I had the same problem with one of mine and managed to carefully cut the metal tube along its length with a junior hacksaw. After that get a screwdriver into the cut and force it open to release it from the nylon part 2.

Do be careful as the part 2 can snap off at the point it enters the tube.

cheers
