My Mk4 fiesta failed it's MOT today on excessive movement at the upper attatchment (2.5.A.1c)
Basically the upper mounts on the suspension struts need changing.
How big of a job is this? Is it one I could easily carry out with my spanner set?
Inside the car boot there is a mount on each suspension strut that looks a bit like this (it's actually the front but looks the same)

is this the offending part and is it just a case of taking it off and plonking a new one on?

Looks like an Allen key and cranked ring spanner job. There's nowt complicated on them ... undo nut while holding strut still with Allen key, jack up car body away from the strut, fit new mount, carefully lower body over strut, fasten nut and Robert's your Auntie's husband.
May be quicker to undo the strut completely, it's just a trailing 'dead' axle on the back.
Ian.

first compress the spring with these
i used a spanner on a spark plug socket then a decent allen key held with mole grips to undo the top bit
Why not drop the strut complete ?
