Bosch K Jetronic Fuel Injection problem

Post by Kenny »

I was wondering if anyone on the forum was familiar with the above fuel injection system and if they could offer me any advice regarding a problem I have, as below.

I am working on this system as fitted to a Ford Cologne V6, in a Type 25.

I took it off the road because it kept flooding massively, what seemed like major over-fueling. I has stood for a while and now I am trying to get to the bottom of the problem. I have replaced the metering head which I thought was to blame but it has not improved things and it will not start at all.

I have checked and replaced further parts and most things seem to check out OK. The main thing I havent checked is the fuel pressure - however I suspect this is incorrect as when I did a test on the cold start valve it didnt spray, just dribbled!

Does it sound like I am on the right track? ie why would the cold start injector drip, rather than spray, is this an indication of low system pressure? ...and what are the likely causes of low pressure?

I would be grateful of any ideas or sources of info about the K jet system..

Cheers!

I am not very experienced with this system, but have you tried unplugging the wire to the cold start injector ?

Thanks for the response, I havent tried that. Since I posted last I have begun to investigate it as a fuel pressure problem. I did a fuel pump delivery test earlier this week and when the pump was energised it only whirred nicely for a couple of seconds before it sounded like it was really struggling and hardly any fuel came out of the line. It is supposed to do something like a pint in 30 secs?! I think either my pump is knacked or I have a blockage...or a broken accumulator?! hmmmm...anyway will let you know if I get it running! What van do you have? standard engine, or 'alternative'?

cheers..
