Have you taken it to an eberspacher agent?
http://www.eberspacher.com/dealers.php? ... on=dealers
I use our local Parkinsons and find them very helpful.
If you want I will check with them to see if your D2l realy is obselete.

they want to replace the parts (which are not available new), a d2 which is the current equivelant model fitted with all pipes changed etc is 2k, and they (insurance) want a cheaper option, also i want to keep the van looking as it should, all my pipe outlets will be unuseable because of the pipe size difference, unless they can make up a reducer. i will also have another timer and stat fitted as mine are not compatible with the newer heater, so my old ones will be used just to blank off the old holes, unless the new stat is hidden away somewhere, the other arguement is that the engine has been replaced with a new vw unit (they paid) and the heater was working when it went for this to be fitted, but after standing for 4 weeks (waiting for parts and to get the job in)the water that had entered the eber box had corroded the components and knackered them completely, with the cost of the engine plus eber and labour/vat the job hits the 5.5k mark which was border line write off... if they had known the cost of heater repair at the time.

I replaced the air motor end off our D1L ... no probs, direct from Espar or whatever they call themselves these days. Twas pricey mind .... £180 trade ... However I wouldn't have thought it was beyond the wit of man to totally replace an Eber for less than £1K

What about replacing it with a newer DL1c (compact thingy..) Spannerrack usually has 1 or 2 for sale and would be a lot less than 2k...

Might be worth asking Aidan (Beaker) as he did have a couple of huge box like Ebers IIRC, in his parts storage... maybe he has a usuable/parts unit

d2 is the kit they are wanting to fit, to be compatible with my existing thermostat and digital timer so it all looks as it should, the kit with all fixings and ducting and water proof box etc is £1k on its own with no labour, i think they are covering theyre a*** labour wise because theyve never done one like mine before, just need the insurance to ok it..
