Best Oil for Air Cooled?

Post by stevewright76 »

Who recons which type is best - 2l air cooled engine in 1982 T25 camper.

JustKampers list Morris 30 (MONOGRADE) oil for Aircooled engines - used to use this in 76 bay.

Opinions and experiences of best oils vey welcome.

Kinda important!

I feel an oil debate comming on... Quantum 15-40 is usually a safe bet, I went from quantum to morris on a bay and it wasn't long before I burnt an exhaust valve. It may or may not have been related, I think Morris may have some deturgents in which Quantum doesn't which might lead to a load of crud swimming round the system, keep it simple I s'pose is the way to go (Synthetics will not be suitable for an Aircooled)

HI - I have just had this discussion on the phone with pete from rustybus.

Looks like an oil change is on the way for me...bye bye semisynthetic, hello GTX for high mileage engines as it has all the necessary additives to make my 2l Aircooled LPG conversion run smoothly! :D

I,m sure Pete will be along to give chapter and verse. :)

What oil?

Post by Tex Ritter »

Castrol GTX for my mountaineering air cooled.

Even down the med it performs faultlessly in 30+ celsius outside temperatures.

Oil change

Post by Tex Ritter »

I only use my van in the Summer months but I would change the oil for the start of Summer and then every 4k miles regardless.

magneted

Castrol Magnatec ?

That has what I believe is called a surface modifier in it, or what is called a mono-molecular lubricant additive. Seen it used in production car racing.

A suggestion from someone, who said that's what Gasure recommend - have seen (as with all oils it would seem) conflicting views... From 'it's best' to 'appalling'.

Hmm, there's no definitive answer here is there???
