temp gauge

hi my tep gauge dosnt work, if i leave engine running say for 20 mins .the temp gauge shoots up to the top and the red light flashs
can someone point me in the right direction to start looking where the fault is.i think its the thermostat? :oops: but not sure
its a 1.9 watercooled petrol engine

Yep, if it actually move after a period of time something is working.. could be that the sender is faulty.. so fit a new one..
If there is a lot of air in the system then that will need bleeding and monitoring as if it returns quickly there is a fault in the cooling system somewhere... could be any one of a 100 connections or worse the engine at fault..

Hi, i now have bleed the system but now the temp gauge not working so i found the yellow/red color wire and followed it in towards the engine unwrapping all the insulation tape then came across the red/yellow wire in a sleeve along with brown wire both been cut and going no where.
where should they go as there isn't any place where there are wires missing looks like someone has wired to something else.
