inter changable fuel tanks...anybody know?

yo folks,ive got to replace the diesel tank on marladys van,1.6 diesel 1983..do i have to get the exact one or can i fit a different one ,seen a few on fleabay which are off petrol vans from different years going for a song..................what dus reckon owducks????????????????

Same tank I think, as lot of petrols are converted to diesels without a tank change... in the case of a Syncro, and a the norm 50 degree install, tank needs to be different to allow for starter position

Only differences (2wd) are th fuel injected models have larer delivery and return lines IIRC.. and the fuel filler neck diameter... you will need the corresponding filler neck...

There are 3 tanks.

Early, with metal filler neck.
Late, with plastic filler neck.
Late, injection with plastic fillerneck and larger fuel outlet.

4 tanks,south african=larger.
