Late 80's passat engine - RA?

Post by sdelasal »

Anyone got any experience/views on suitability of using the 1.6td engine from a mid-late 80's passat - engine code RA I think.

Suitable, but most would choose the SB if wanting a 1600 i think, mayeb its intercooled, not sure... easy to check with ETKA.

Both RA and SB are intercooled, and have the water-cooled turbo (according to ETKA). I'm currently fitting an SB, and the only complication was to block the water return inlet used by the turbo water cooling. I was planning on fitting a charge-cooler anyway. Otherwise they are physically interchangable with the JX.

If the RA you're considering is in good nick, then it should be as good as any SB.
