Just passed the MOT but ..............

Post by NickD_Westy »

GREAT It Passed..but I've had advisory on the MOT to:

A) Have an illuminating fog light switch?

b) Possibly replace the rear brake pipes from the 'T' piece to the bulk head where it meets the flexible pipe?

Are these things 'normal' replys from an MOT??

Any comments welcome

Cheers Nick

A) Some MOT Testing Stations would have failed the vehicle if the 'tell tale' warning light on the fog lamp switch is not working.

B) The 'T' piece is obviously slightly corroded but not seriously enough to fail the vehicle this time round. The message they are sending is ''get it sorted'' because it is going to cause problems in the future. If you ignore the problem it will not go away & it is likely to fail next year.

It should have failed for the 'tell tale' warning light on the fog lamp switch not working. It looks like he did you a favour there.

Count your blessings, you must have had a lenient tester, I wonder what more did he see and not say anything about?

it sounds like you are a bit worried NickD_Westy, he would have failed your car if it was dangerous, I have found that MOT stations especially out in the country are quite symapthic towards VW campers, eg noisey exhausts, the odd thing not quite right.. they realise they are not going to be doing 20,000 miles a year and that the owners are usually quite careful with them and keep up maintenance themselves, if the brakes were dangerous the car would have failed. I would always be cross over a failure by no switch illumination. My camper let about 2 litres of water go all over the MOT station as I didn't bleed the system properly after changing a water system gasket, and it passed.

my advisorys last year were

offside handbrake adjustment needed

handbrake cable needing to be tied up instead of dragging on the road

and chaffing of flexi hose when on full lock (gawd nose how I am going to sort that out.)
