I have discovered that the split charge relay (located in the engine bay) sticks
thus allowing the leisure side of things to drain the starter battery

a simple test is to disconnect the main battery +ve lead and turn on the lights or the ignition
if after disconnecting the lights work ...then its stuck

I would replace it as soon as you can

this has happened to me just recently on me hols in Dorset, After noticing my alternator was working very hard to recharge (I have an ammeter)...
the starter was quite sluggish too
a little tapping and fiddling got it unstuck

You may find that later models have the relay next to the leisure battery.

I looked in the engine bay in my van & found nuffink! There is a small mid-blue coloured plastic cube thing attached to the interior of the seat box next to the vehicle battery under the drivers seat. Could this be it?

Kev, i have a theory

I recon the split charge relay is gettin too hot in the engine bay
esp on longer journeys.....................
on all my t25's it been near the L.batt, even on the far superior Autohomes Kamper

the hot pip for the LPG evaporator doesn't help either

i think thats where mine is too. it clicks when you turn the ignition key and i believe it shouldnt switch over till the engine is started.

is there any way to fix it or do i have get a new one ? ( if so where from ? )

Mine does to, I think they all do, once the igntion is live, so is the circuit, so dont sit there for hours with the igntion on and motor not running.

and I'm sure mines finaly packed up on the return from Costock today

My ammeter (which shows charge to both batts) has looked like a metronome until the journey home when it just stopped still

yep - that makes sense - glad to know mines not broken then

the problems are going to start if your second battery is in bad shape as it will drag the starter battery performance down before you crank the engine.

i just had to replace both of mine when i bought the van so they should be ok for a while.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look at mine. Small price to pay for such a superior conversion though, don't you agree?

I do ....

update on the relay is .....working fine (for now)

the intermittent charge was the regulator having a rusty connection.
