FITTING WESTY ROOF

Post by cruiseyboy »

Hi folks, has anyone fitted a Westfalia Roof before? If so do you have any top tips/pics/templates/measurements please. Also, do I need any re-inforcing metal plates adding to my roof? Thanks.

IIRC, I read on here that Westy roofs don't fit to panel vans, or velle conversions - the vans left the factory slightly different to go to westfalia for conversion. Don't know what is different about the roof, but was advised not to get a westy roof if converting a van or velle.

sorry

Factory Westy`s had a different roof pressing to a standard van. The roof came out of the factory, and went to Westfalia factory, with a flat-at-the-rear pressed roof, so the top bed sits flat when assembled. The later Mosaik Joker had a normal curved roof and an infill panel that fitted onto the top of the curved roof to make a flat bed.

If you get a Joker roof complete, then to do it right you need the metal roof skin from the donor vehicle to go with it, which involves drilling out loads of spot welds, and re-attaching the panel to your chosen vehicle. Unless you can cobble up some sort of flat platform to try and make it all work :? Make sure you get absolutely everything that goes with it, all brackets, bolts, screws etc and take pictures before cutting.

Reimo will fit you a brand new pop-top to your `van for around £2000
Keep it real.

Well our van is a westy joker that WAS a pop - top, it has the flat bed and currently has an EMC hightop on it. We've decided that the hi top is more inconvenient do to fuel economy, noise, car parks, and we want to get a westy pop top put back on it. How easy is it likely to be?
My van isn't leaking oil. It's just marking it's territory.

If it was previously a pop-top, then I would think you`re half-way there :) It`s just nuts, bolts and a loada staples if you get the early one (the canvas is stapled to a wooden batten, later ones are screwed)

Make sure you get EVERYTHING, there are a lot of parts that go towards making it a proper installation, loads of bits and pieces listed on ETOS for the pop-top, and most of them obsolete, so you do need eveything.
Keep it real.
