Roof change

Post by syncropete »

Just chopped the hideous factory Hightop off our Syncro 16. I have a complete tin top with the huge factory steel sunroof which I am welding on tommorow. Over 300 spotwelds drilled on the donor roof! I have had to remove quite a few panels from the van that related to the high top. A really enjoyable job - so far. (broke the windscreen though).
I have lots of photos to come later. The plan is to fit a small poptop that can also slide on rails to the rear of the van to enable the sunroof to be used as intended.
Pete.

Completed the welding :D . 4 trial fits (it weighs a bloody ton!) and everything fitted very nicely. Love the way it opens - plenty of standing room just where you need it by the kitchen unit ( or at least the other half). Rear westy wardrobe needs the top trimming and so do the side pods for the lights and curtains. We are going to v festival at the weekend in this van!
