Battery loosing it's charge :(

Post by SYNCRO »

I've got a 1991 T25 1.9 Autohomes Kamper.

The problem is last week the battery would not hold it's charge over a few days :(

I replaced it with a new battery as the other was looking old on Friday (date on top said 2001).

Went to start him this morning totally flat.......I don't use the interior lights so they cant be the culprit.....anyone any ideas what can cause a battery to discharge??

Tvm

there is a simple test to see what's draining your battery...... get a brake light bulb (or simular) and disconnect the neg connection to your main battery, connect the bulb between the neg lead and the battery, then making sure everything is switched off, if the bulb is lighting something is draining, the brighter it lights the bigger the drain. disconnect one thing at a time, including the leisure battery- pull one fuse at a time untill you have eliminated the cuase....

Cheers Steve

I put a meter on this afternoon between the negative connection and the chassis, at 200mv I was getting a 0.40 drain so I assume something is afoot

Well, recharged it overnight......hooked everthing up again....all aok..Alternator giving a good 13.5-7volts charge.

The bulb and wire check shows a very dim bulb and the meter was still 0.40ma.

Garage says it looks like a duff new battery......

the clock would account for some of that...... did you do the fuse pulling thing? evenif the battery is pooh, there shouldnt be any drain if all the fuses are out and non fusd things are disconnected......
