Bits a flappiin'!

Post by niffy »

I have just got the van back from the MOT (no probs :D ) - were the mechanic had "kindly" tried to improve the action of the sliding door - he thought the lock was catching on the panel between the runner and window (never noticed it). Well now the whole panel is flapping about and hardly attached. The lock has bitten a chunk of her nice new paint and I'm a bit cross

Looking at it at the rear of the panel there appears to be a little bit for a bolt/scerw - but whatever that was meant to go into has be knocked off - or I can't see the bleeding obvious (quite possible  ) It is not clipped in that well and before I tried brute force thought I would check with you guys as to any suggestions or advice. Keen to go off in the new turquoise machine - but don't want bits flying off!!

Thank Niffy

Sliding door track cover

Post by Fritz »

Yes this item can be a bit of a swine to fit properly even for an experienced fitter,,,,,,,,anyway as you have found there should be 2 metal straps on the underside of the cover which then must be lined up with another pair attached to the van .
It is possible for these on the van to corrode away and can only be replaced with the aid of some fresh metal and a welder (if you want it doing properly)

It may not be a good idea to have this cover flopping about as the wind will eventually pull it off..

Thanks Fritz :) - thought something must have dropped off! I definately am concerned the wind would rip it off once I got off the lanes round here. She is due to go up to Steve in Chester in a couple of weeks - I'm sure he would be able to make good. What would be the best way to secure it on the way up? (takes just over an hour)

Thanks again

Just a suggestion as a completely temporary fix to get you to chester...remove the door card. get a piece of tiber 2x3 or 4x4 sort of dimensions and about 18-24 inches longer than the door and put it in the van. shut the door and get some one to push it closed from the outside while you lash it to the timber braced across the posts on the inside. That should stop it going anywhere. It might also be worth masking taping over the outside leading edge of the door so that the wind wont get in behind the door.
Sean.
