Carb setup help needed.

Post by dirtywedge »

Hi guys sorry this has to be my 1st post but its sending me mad!

its a 1.9 watercooled DF engine with a single solex carb, looks similar to single bug/camper ones.

When starting from cold it starts ok but runs really fast on the choke, when the choke comes off fully its stalls most of the time and sometimes idles really slow.

The main idle screw is undone as far as it will go (this is how i got it) so i thought by screwing it in a bit might solve the slow idle out.Wrong. It refuses to idle at all. seems a bit backwards to me.

can anyone help and advise where to start?

thanks

aren't carbs great fun?

Have you checked the air-cleaner assembly etc? Could be that your filter is clogged. Try removing it from the carb top. Once it's off check the butterfly on the top of the carb. When cold it should be almost closed, when hot should be open (i.e vertical) Could be a sticking choke if it's not opening as the engine warms up.

Probably worth stripping the carb and getting in there with a can of carb cleaner too.

Oh, and check the fuel filter too, you never know.

Hope this starts you off on the long winding road to carb heaven (or hell!)

tried without the air filter but no joy. did notice that the large rubber gasket that the carb mounts to on the manifold looks buggerd so im guessing its leaking air in.
