Strong egg smell?
Hi Im snarls bro, he's let me use this forum.
Can anyone help... I recently bought my first T25 It has had a new 1.6 TD engine fitted - which I don't think is a regular T25 engine as the battery is in the engine bay?
However I don't know if that is relevant, all i know is when driving the van for more than an hour or so I get the craziest amount of egg/sulfur smell coming into the van..? When i open the windows it gets worse!
Someone said it could be catalytic converter on its way out, but its a 89 model?
If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated... I'll try and get her to the doctors this weekend but would be great to get any advice that might be out their....

Unless you (or someone else) retro-fitted a cat, it doesn't have one.
That leaves the battery as the next suspect. If that's being overcharged (faulty alternator) it'll boil over and smell of sulphur (battery acid = sulphoric acid)
Best check that immediatedly ...leaking battery acid can cause quite some damage ...worst case scenario your battery could explode

Hi Fella. as Rob says, battery lives next to engine in the diesels. the stink be hydrogen sulphide ie;the battery gassing off due to overcharging.
have you got a leisure one under the seat as well? either way get it checked, the gas is explosive in the right concentration plus it aint good for your health to breath it.

sounds like the leisure battery then m8 cos the engine bay is sealed from the passenger compartment,, faulty alternator by the sound of it. i'd disconnect it immediately cos if it does go bang and it's under your seat,,,, wheres the acid goin

Crazy as it sounds, try and flush out your windscreen washer bottles. The water can get mouldy if left in there too long and when you travel the motion stirs it all up. Its what happened to mine. The rear botle was well stagnent.

The smell was coming from the leisure battery over charging, i checked it yesterday once i could smell it. and i could hear the battery acid bubbling away... Anyone know what i need to do to prevent this from happening again. Would a new battery stop the problem?
Thanks

Have you got a voltmeter? if not then get one only about a fiver, with engine off, check battery voltage of both your leisure and start battery,
Make a note of these and then start her(him) up, and check the same, you dont want to see much more than 14 and a bit volts on either battery.
let us know the outcome and we'll go from there
