Erbaastacher on Westy not working .....

California 1990.

Hi,

Has anyone got any ideas please.....

1, Clock unit constantly flashes

2, Switch near dial did work for a few seconds then slightly screeech then stop

3, Plugged into mains when on a site (back when it was summer) and tried it then. It rumbled a bit and started smoking a little then possibly started working, mut my wife thought the van was gonna blow up and made me switch it off!

Not really sure how it should work or how to set the clock??

Any ideas or information much appreciated.

See the link to the Westy owners manual for a start. Eber won`t work if your leisure battery isn`t fully charged, hook-up doesn`t run the Eber (although the hook-up SHOULD charge your leisure battery if it`s all wired correctly)

Just incase anyone is interested these eber heaters were fitted to all BT transits from around 1990 until 2004, plenty lying around scrap yards now, probably good source of spares,

The Westy uses a unique type of Eber, it`s flat so it fits under the floor without hanging down. The type in BT vans ans other vehicles looks like a big bread tin with a hole at each end.

Like Tam says, van scrappers is a good place to get one though, and they seem to fit under the rear seat/bed without to much hassle

what no-one has bothered to actually tell you is that if the voltage drops below about 10.6v from your battery supply the eber will not work. when you were plugged into the hook up it probably had adequate voltage so was probably working.
something to remember is that it needs to see at least 10.6 volts at the eber end of the wiring so 11 at the battery is barely enough.
as someone said run the engine whilst trying it and if you have split charge you should then see around 14 volts at the battery and it will probably work.

It`s all spelled out in that, including the bit about the low voltage cut-off.

i tend to treat these forums like a face to face conversation,, and if you were talking to someone and knew the answer you wouldn't tell them to search for it lol. you'd say heres the answer and if you want the tech info look here

Agree, it sounds like a voltage problem. Either your leisure batt is shot or it's not getting charge? What does the LED display on the sink tell you? Try also checking for a sound earth.

Clock setting: hold in the left-hand button on the control unit (picture of clock on it) and then use the arrows to adjust the time. (It stops flashing and goes to 0:00 once you press the clock button once).
