cold start issues diesel

Post by lambrettalee »

any ideas appreciated.... 1.9 td , when starting from cold(with cold start handle out) the van is more smokey than usual and more than a little spluttery ,tickover lumpy, when its rev,d there appears to be diesel smoke coming from the exhaust, after a while it clears and seems to drive as it always has, when starting from warm it ticks over nice and no smoke at all,the timing is correct,no oil in the water .before i spend money out for nothing ,is this a possible injector problem or would it smoke when warm also if it was injectors??

the cold start advances the ignition.you should not need to use it at all.its there for extremely cold conditions.maybe its this advanced state thats causing it to run lumpy.or does it do the same if you start it with the cold start pushed in...read this also..https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22777
