NEW 1.6 TD - Cooling System Bleeding - HELP!

Post by chappy »

I've now got connie the camper fitted out with a spanking new JX 1.6TD and she's running like a dream

Just wanted to check a couple of things on the cooling system.

1. I don't have an auxillary water pump - should I reinstall one?

2. Filled the system, ran the engine, opened bleed screw on rad and coolant came out (incidentally rear of van was on ramps at the time). Closed bleed screw. Drove Connie off ramps (finally!! hooray!!). Ran engine again, warmed her up and she started getting a bit hot (past the halfway mark on the gauge) :o . Opened bleed screw - nothing. Rad's not even warm. What gives? It's not the thermostat cos all the engine pipes and the heater pipes are hot.

3. Fan didn't come on so want to check it - how do I get to it!?

Desperately want to get campering now! Any ideas?

1. I don't have an auxillary water pump - should I reinstall one?

So the aux pump pipes are coupled together? Up to you, some don't work anyway, and only when engine is off. Are you following the other recent threads on such things as aux pumps and turbo fan blowers? A lot of their wiring is common. Worth checking that out for starters

2. Filled the system, ran the engine, opened bleed screw on rad and coolant came out (incidentally rear of van was on ramps at the time). Closed bleed screw. Drove Connie off ramps (finally!! hooray!!). Ran engine again, warmed her up and she started getting a bit hot (past the halfway mark on the gauge) Surprised. Opened bleed screw - nothing. Rad's not even warm. What gives? It's not the thermostat cos all the engine pipes and the heater pipes are hot.

Maybe get the front up higher. Or take a hose off at the rad and see what's coming out, get the top hose conenction flowing and re-connect.

Underneath, but do you want to?
it's probbaly because the switch (n/s rad, behind the grille), isn't getting hot enough. You can easily chack the switch or the wiring right there at the front. Even trip the fan to run.
