My Westy has a 1.9Tdi AFN engine in. It was once a 1.6 TD JX.
Etka shows the JX back pipe runs from the Muffler to the Turbo.
However there is another 'piece' on my 1.9 between the Turbo and the back pipe which has split.
It appears corrugated steel. I can only think hat it is needed because the turbo on the AFN sits further back than on a JX and it bridges the gap ?
Anyone know the ID of this part? Part number if its VW or any other info will be of great help.
Thanks
Mark

Further forward on the vehicle Mark?
Do you mean flexi-hose, as in a stainless-steel concertina style exhaust section?
If so I imagine it was welded in to take account of slight difference in length or difference in height of the Tdi turbo (if there is) AND/OR just as a precaution against vibration...
My custom s/s TD exhaust made up by AndyS has a length of such flexi, just after the 180 curve around to face the back...
Equivalent to this...

Could be wrong but would think you need some fabrication doing...

The part is a flexi, so it should be as it was. Im having the old flanges tig welded on.
Its a bit of a drag; as the garage is the opposite side of town to the exhaust fabricator.
I collected the old joint from the garage on friday and delivered it to the fabricators.
This morning i collected two cut flanges and the new flexi and delivered it back to the garage; he has to fit flanges, put joint in position and spot weld it all together.
Then i have to pick it up and take it back to the tig welder to finish and take it on back to the garage for final fitting.
26 mile round trip x 4
Fingers crossed we will still be heading off on holiday in two weeks

Could easily be MIG'd, whether stainless or mild steel, but TIG better of course...
Have been using stainless MIG wire a lot lately... not always exhausting either
