Petrol Consumption

My van 1983 petrol air cooled two litre has just gone to devon and back at approx 15 miles to the gallon! It did not go over 60 at any time and i was really well behaved the whole dreadful trip.

It reeks of petrol. In the last few weeks ive had an o ring put into my new petrol tank and it was checked over for leaks. Nowt showed.

So any ideas?

what was the mpg like before? It wasn't the white one parked in Plymouths Colin Campbell Court was it? That was smellling of petrol from the rear, i put a club flyer on it hoping they woul come on here so they could be warned to check their hoses. When mine was stinking of petrol it was the small hoses that gofrom the petrol tank to the two expansion tanks.

Had it five years always done trip on a full tank, had to fill it up three times, tho have got some left but not anywhere near what id expect.

No leaks, got my baby back last night. It was all engine stuff, diagphram, air filter, sparks etc. Said i musnt fill her up anymore as its been leaking at neck. (Got new tank last year). Didnt think my expansion somethings were leaking either

Anyway its going like stink and sounds like somebody elses van.

Can do the body work which is now an essential as i hit the gatepost coming out of the garage and my wheel arch fell off!
