Rear seat belts
When we bought our N reg T25 we thought it would be quite straightforward to arrange for rear seat belts to be fitted. We've been told, by a trustworthy VW expert, that as there is a wooden rock'n'roll bed we would really need to replace this with a metal one first. Cupboards would then need to be removed for secure fixings to be made on the actual body work. The labour involved and purchasing a bed would make the cost of this about half the value of the van itself! This has led us to thinking of selling the van and finding one that has rear seatbelts fitted, but there seem to be very few about - and most have lapbelts rather than the full-blown 3-point type. We really don't want to sell our van, but feel unsafe with the children unharnessed in the back! Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on addressing this issue? Many thanks.

Sorry - it's a Y reg and I don't know what type of conversion it is - still quite new to all this!

Hi,
What sort of conversion is it? ie what did it come out of the factory as, if it was a panel van it wont have the fixings in the side of the van, if you have a mutlivan, caravelle, bus conversion then the 3 point fixing should be there......
If you look on just kampers website you can get a couple different types of seat belt bundles and I think one that is an extension.....if I remember there was an article in camper and bus magazine about the problems you have and it had some good contacts on fixing seat belts and lap...will dig it out and get some numbers for you....

deponds on what conversion but most conversions should allow you to fix at least on 3 point belt to the nearside (if a rhd van) and a lap belt to the caentre (if its a 3/4 r&r bed). I have done this on one van and welded in the top point mounting and the base mounting. Takes abit of time to figure out best positions but with abit of time and though it can be relatively cheaply. cheers

Thanks for all the info. I think it must be a panel van as there are certainly no fixings currently. The bloke who examined it very carefully for us was concerned about having to find something solid to attach the fixings to (through cupboards on one side) and that the wooden rock'n'roll bed had so much movement on it that in the event of a nasty shunt the seat belts would remain secure but the seat would shift forward, possibly cutting in two the passengers! He said all things can be done - but the labour etc involved meant it would pribably cost us about £1500. I get the impression it would be easier on other vans - the internal configuration on ours seems to be making the problem quite complex.

Have you a photo of the interior or exterior?
can you point to a van on the garage that's like yours?
£1500 is daft .....just plain daft.
I've seen three point belts fitted and it's not so difficult ..just needs thinking over.
As has been said, lap belts are a good compromise

the 3 points were fitted today - the guy made it look quite easy.
he mounted a plate behind the air grilles at the back to fit the over the shoulder bit. took him a couple of hours.
very neet job, wife is happy - off camping at the weekend
here is the website of the company that fitted them.

Rear Seat Belts
Hi
Have just fitted rear seatbelts to the back of Bill. Had to reomve the cupboards on one side and get the bits from Just Campers. Work evolved into replacing the entire seat and putting in a full width one, severly testing my non-existant carpentry skills.
Has taken a while [still not finished yet
] but we are off camping today with two propoer rear seatbelts.
Ours is an Autohomes conversion, factory done, but there were no fitting points so had to all myself. Should look ok tho
