Steering rack LHD

Post by Spiral »

My 1990 LHD German Westfalia Atlantic T3 just failed the MOT because the steering rack was knackered (amongst other things). Does anyone here please tell me where I can buy a brand new LHD steering rack in the UK. The MOT guy who is fixing it refuses to fit a secondhand one for obvious reasons :( Tried VW Germany but they quoted me a whopping £791.....and it's a 30 day delivery time!!! Without the MOT I can't get the vehicle registered in the UK....Doh!

Buy a secondhand one and take the van elsewhere for its MOT.

Hi, I suppose his refusal to fit a secondhand steering rack is because he's worried about losing his MOT testing license if the part fails and I decide to report him to the DVLA for fitting it......or at least that's the impression I get. It's not really the wonga that bothers me, it's just the lengh of time that I've got to wait for the part. If I can locate a new LHD steering rack in the UK, at least I won't have to wait over 4 weeks for it....and I might even get it a bit cheaper :)

Thinking of taking mickB's advice and asking the MOT guy to fit a secondhand LHD steering rack (mick has one for sale on this site) and I'll sign a disclaimer for any work that he does on my vehicle.

By the way mickB, thanks for being a top bloke when I phoned you to enquire about the steering rack!
