Starting woes.

Anyone know whats causing this problem? My T25 starts usually 1st time, then when i turn it off, leave a couple on minutes, then try to start again, its like the battery is flat. Turns over very very slowly and refuses to start. Ive put a new battery on and the same thing happens. If i leave it for a day, she starts again, then wont restart. Barely turns over.
Any advice?

I'd also check your battery health, Voltage with engine on and off.
And check all earths on the engine and battery.

hi there beleive me im no expert but as no one else has replied could be a couple of things im only going on my experience tho so, as you've said you have swapped the battery it cant be the problem might it be the alternator? meaning that its not kkeeping your battery charged when in motion? does the battery light come on at all whilst your driving? might be worth a look, tuther thing could be a like mine has just had a bad earth, had my gfs uncle come round to have a look coz i thought it was the starter motor(which by the way could be another reason yours wont start could be the bushes are worn might be worth giving it a tap with a hammer to see if that loosens it) but turns out that i just had a bad connection that was earthing (chap said he could see one of the connectors glowing as i was trying to turn over the engine) wouldnt start at all so he rubbed it down with sand paper and squirted wd40 on it turned the key and fired up first time)

like i said im no expert by any means but these might be worth checking hope this help :)

if its a petrol engine (crystal balls not working this morning) it could be ylour timing is too far advanced, or as the others said, starter motor pinion bushing in the gearbox bellhousing.
also check gearbox nose mount earth strap And the main starter wire from battery where it contacts onto the starter solenoid for man.ky connection.......

if its diesel. "frell" nose

I have same symptoms on 1.9 watercooled. Checked connections on starter and they look a bit corroded - will clean and try again. Earth strap looks ok.
Starter does one turn (sound effect aaaaauuumph!) and then falters - sometimes will continue and start, sometimes will not. A quick retry sometimes works too. Makes no difference if engine is hot or cold.
Is this a symptom of a worn starter motor bush? Had a tuned pinto in kit car that would do this if timing was too far advanced.

mine does this too, I assumed it was related to the flywheel. as it feels like it is trying to get past something too tight, but it does usually start first time when cold so it is okay, just a bit embarassing at petrol stations etc. if it takes a few times to get it turned over.. I dont think it is the starter motor strength as it has done this since I owned it (1 year) and when the clutch went a month ago, I managed to start it when it was in first gear by the starter motor alone with 3 people in the camper so I think the starter is strong enough.
