Where are my docs then?

Post by edmundator »

There is no real point to this thread other than to vent my frustration!

I've been waiting over a week now for my registration docs from the DVLA for my Syncro, after doing the import shenanigans. The slip of paper they gave me said I could ring up to check progress after 2 days. I rang up yesterday, went through all their automated menus to reach a recording telling me that unless I'd been waiting 10 days I could not enquire about progress.

I need my van. I need to take it to Germany to pick up a Westfalia interior. I need to get back and fit the interior. I need to be able to leave the country in my converted van on 24th July.

Either that or I'll have pointlessly bought a Syncro and the Devon will have to come to Iceland. And I will get very cold, and see a lot less.

All sounds a bit of a tight time-line there... with a bit of British Bureaucracy thrown in.

They make you pay taxes for date of payment, but no temporary permit/paperwork so you can drive it until documentation gets back.. Rip-off

Weird.. whenever I have done the import paperwork, its has taken 2-3 days max, then I go and pick it up. I don't even think it leaves the local DVLA office that you take it into...

Did you do it by post? I wonder if this is slower?

No, I went into the local office (Birmingham) first thing last thursday morning (when it was still June). The guy at the counter even said 2-5 days. Like lloyd says, it's all the more annoying because they've taken my money, thanks very much, but I've got to sit around twiddling my thumbs waiting to hear from them.

It could be partly down to the start of the month I suppose, increased volume of work for all the new tax discs.

I flouted the "wait 10 working days" rule and called the DVLA anyway. The Birmingham office very efficiently called me back to say that the papers were sorted out today and should be with me tomorrow. Fingers crossed

They're here! Off to get some plates made up now.

Anyone got any idea how long it usually takes for the V5C to turn up? I'd ideally like to have it with me in Iceland, although the insurance certificate, MOT and Fahrzeugbrief should be enough.

Got a trip to Germany lined up at the weekend to pick up a Westfalia interior I've bought off eBay. The fun starts here!

Mine took a couple of weeks to arrive. I dont know whether some telephone enquiries to your local office can speed the process considering your situation. I would be Mr Nice and get someone on your side at the local office who can enquire and prod the big machine into action.
Good luck, why do these things always end up so frantic. They always do though.

Mine took under a week - arrived yesterday in the post! Perhaps each office is different on workload etc... But I'm pretty happy with that service :D
