Putting a 1.9TDi AHU engine into my T3. Turing to get it running fully as it was in the golf it came from using the ECU and original pump. Have the original key taped to the immobiliser ring thing...
Got it wired up and all connectors reconnected. When you power it up you get the battery light and the glow plug comes on, however the rest of the original dash is blank, no mileage readings or anything.
Tried spinning it for a while, it has fired a couple of times, but wont fully catch, took one of the pipes off the injector and there was no fuel, apart from when it randomly fired at that point it fired a little, then the fuel stopped again. Thought about trying to take out the fuel cut of solenoid, however am not too sure what I am doing. Does this seem likely to be the problem, or is it just likely to be airlocked or something?
Also any ideas why the instruments are blank and would this be indicating something is missing?
Cheers
Stu

Hi Philip,
The wiring loom is pretty much complete bar headlights, indicators etc are not connected. I have had a look over it and I have a red wire with a single black connector on the end coming from the back of the instrument pod. There is also a black cable with 3 connectors on it which goes to one that has only 2 wires on it. I assume this has snagged or tugged somewhere and these have become loose.
Basicaly the van has 2 looms in it the now, the vans loom, not connected to engine components/sensors and the golfs loom connected to all the engine sensors ecu instrument panels fusebox etc.
I have done a VAGCOM scan and will rerun it with a registered version tomorrow. The results were:
VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S
Chassis Type: 1H - VW G/J/V Mk3

hi stu sorry for the delay in responce been away,
first thing to be 100% sure of is that the key imobiliser and ECU all came from the same car, are you 100% sure, make sure the key is the main key with transponder in ,not just a spare without transponder,
make sure the key is in or on the exciter ring, if you are 100% sure of all of this and you are still getting 17978 bloking start by imobiliser, then you need to get the the ecu and imobiliser "paired", i think this could be your problem, hope this helps
FYI, the imobiliser must be wired in correctly for you to interigate the ECU so there dosnt seam to be a prob there as your getting fault codes

Thanks for your replies, but I got kinda impatient and changed the pump to a mechanical one from a Passat, so now have a hybrid 1.9 intercooled turbo thing! BUT it starts, drives, no smoke, all I wanted really. Time will tell how good it is, will report after a longer test!
