Fuel tank advice

Post by munnyella »

Morning

I am planning on dropping my fuel tank later this week, I think I have stuff in it (apart from petrol)

Looks to be a fiddly, but relatively simple job, so I shall have a crack at it myself.

I would just ask for you advice on what bits I will need/should replace on re fitting, Grommets, seals hoses etc. I would rather have them to hand before I start so I know I can get it all back together.

Its a 1.9 petrol water cooled, is that a DG? engine?

Cheers

tank

Post by billy739 »

remove the filler neck first
support tank with a jack
remove tank straps,
lower tank,rear should lower first
with the tank slightly dropped reach on top and remove breather pipes by tristing them
remove sender wires
drop tank
refit in reverse
takes about 20 mins to drop when you have done a few but dont rush your first one!
as well as rust, they have places where pipes/wires can wear through the tank creating holes
minor holes can be repaired with fiberglass as this is what tank repair kits are.
until its removed you wont know what you will need.
possibly nothing.
check the pipes fron the expansion tanks under the wheel arches, the fibre pipe on the ends perishes.
you can remove one without removing the tank, and get a length to be safe

Hi

Are all bits easily available? as I can't afford to be off the road for long, we are going to France for 5 weeks on the 13th and I need to make sure all the gliches are sorted.

Cheers

Think Jk do all the bits IIRC is an easy job really just label anything up that you may forget where it goes give under the tank a good clean waxoil etc.
Just don't leave it too late to your trip in case you have to wait on the post for bits (po strike and all  )
Have a good trip D
