Auto box - Am I stuffed?

Post by Stevie H »

All the conversions I have read about are based on manual gearboxes. Is there anything I can consider with an auto box? :?:

It would depend how much work you are prepared to do, I don't think anything would drop (more or less) straight in, but there is no reason not to use an adapter plate beween engine and auto box, then you would either need to make the VW fluid flywheel fit the engine with another plate of some sort or (assuming the T25 auto is the same as other VW autos I have had) get a suitably splined shaft made to join whatever fluid flywheel fits the engine to the gearbox. All the usual problems of engine mounts, hoses, exhaust etc will still apply and the starter could be very awkward.
Why does the not quite finished job before last always conspire with the not quite started job after next to make what you should be doing now harder?

Lots of Subaru autos in the states I believe... 2.2 EJ is nice engine for an auto, they modify the autos to change up later/earlier whatever - never taken any real notice 'cos I hate the things :D

But the info's there, mostly on subaruvanagon yahoo forum...
