split charge (I have read the wiki FAQ!)

Well, the guy I have bought this T25 from never said anything about leisure battery, and I was new to this T25 camper lark.

Anyway, whilst looking where to install a split charge relay, I found there was one already screwed in, but not wired up fully.

I connected the big red cable to my LB, the black to ground and the lime green one via fuse to the main battery. The little purple cable went somewhere under the dash, so I didn't look at first. I Started her up an put a voltage meter accross the lime green wire to the relay... nothing.

So I dismantled it all, and found the purple wire was connected to a brown and blue wire behind the steering wheel, just by the key-barrel.

Would I be correct in assuming the relay was incorrectly fitted? I'm still looking for this little blue wire to connect the purple wire to!

There is no correct way just one that works. the big wires connect the two batteries positives together the smaller ones are signal feeds that tell the relay the van is running and to close the relay to connect the two batteries together. I think the guy may have taken this signal from the ignition doesnt really matter so long as it is NOT a permanent live ie there is only a supply when the engine is running. The usual way to do this is to connect the signal to the alternator. It may be an idea to re wire the signal your self so you know its done right.

That's prett much my intention.

I think I might give the relay a thump too, could be stuck I suppose if it hasn't been used a while?

its mechanical so I suppose so but apart for making you fell slightly better I don think it will do much good, you could just conecta 12v suppply to the feed (and earth the other side) you should hear and feel it click, the £12 intelligent relay from towsure seems to be woth it for the replacement

Now I've got it free, I'll do that. Any idea how many amps it should draw from the battery (I need to put a fuse of that value in the wire to the relay when I eventually put it back if it isn't broken)

£3 for a relay,you already have all the wires........
the blue you are looking for will be behind the fuse box, comming from the alternator( wich maybe the easiest place to connect onto it, )
