Timing Marks

Post by Dubstar »

I'm trying to set the timing on a 1.9DG and I can find the mark on the big pulley, but where is the one I'm supposed to line it up with? I've tried the Wiki and I can see lots that tell me what the timing should be, but not where the marks are. Unless I just couldn't see it for looking.
Thanks
Shane

the mark you seek is on the crankshaft pulley

TDC is on the pulley and is a "U" shaped mark on the side nearest you.

the firing mark or 5deg Before TDC is a v shaped notch to the right of the "U" and on the opposite side of the crankshaft pulley

Is that on the block or the other pulley? I've found the one on the big crank pulley.

you line the pulley timing mark up with the 'split line' between the 2 engine case halves, mate, there is no actual cast in mark or arrow or anything on the engine, if thats what you meant. hope that helps

There's two marks on the crank pulley (on the later vans 86 on the "v" is 5 deg BTDC) one mark on the earlier vans (TDC)

and it lines up with the straight line of the block casting....

Cheers guys. I'm used to timing Fords that have so many timing marks it's not true! I'll give it a whirl tomorrow now. I might also tell my mate who's van it is to go and buy a manual.
