A friend took her 1.9DG with Pierburg carb to be MOT'ed and the emissions were rather high-HC at 3000+. I took the carb off today and cleaned it all out, replaced all the little rubber connection pipes on the vacuum advance etc, gave it a new fuel filter, and checked the fuel system for leaks-none present. It had plugs, rotor arm, air filter, oil+filter, and a dizzy cap a couple of weeks ago. Before I take it back for the MOT, are there any specific things that go on these carbs that might make them run rich? It might be ok now I've cleaned it all out, but I won't know 'till I take it in, so the more I can do now, the better.
Thanks, Shane

I might stick my timing gun on it tomorrow to see what it's at. Don't know the other readings as the guy didn't gave us a proper fail sheet. To be fair, it only failed on headlight aim and the emissions, and I've took stuff there before, so he knows me and just lets me fix them and bring them back. Within a reasonable time period obviously! He didn't mention the other emissions, just the HC, and the exhaust does smell as rich as a butchers turd! And the auto choke does work.

HC is un burnt fuel so it will stink, it could be lots of things. Does it run smoothly because i would expect with hc of 3000ppm it would have a cylinder doing next to nothing.
