how many miles can i expect

Post by hammy44 »

i have fitted a vw enginered 2.1 dj to my van last year and have now done 8000+mls i was told these engines require renewing at 60000mls my old one had done 63000 but had a fire in the engine bay. how many miles can i expect if i look after it as if i keep using it at this rate i will be looking to replace the engine in 5yrs. how many miles have you on your original petrol engine.

hi harryman it was a guy i met in a parking lot.he said he used to work in a vw garage.asked me what miles was on the clock then proceeded to ask me if i had replaced the engine as at that milage the engines need replacing. i didnt think vws would be that bad but thought i would ask here to find out the truth.

132384 on mine and still goes nicely. change oil and keep anti freeze concentration to correct % to stop head studs corroding and breaking. it will then give good service for many years.

ignore him... time is a big factor to most now, not miles..
they never got the coolant changed very often if ever and this causes the head studs to corrode.. so if you change the coolant every 2 or 3 years with a good make (non fit for life) you should see a lot more years out of it.. regular oil changes too every 5 or 6K miles.. using a good brand 15w40 oil and quality filter..
