Fitting my 1y this weekend

Post by graeme1210 »

I'll finally be taking out my 1.6D cs and fitting my 1.9 1y over the weekend and I'm just ordering in all the parts I need. I'm having trouble identifying what driveshaft cv boots to order from Just Kampers can anyone point me in the right direction from the choices here?

http://shop.justkampers.com/index.php/cPath/2_1024_1153

I'm also fitting/replacing

new exhaust system
new glow plugs
new cambelt
new oil/air filters
new fuel filter
and relacing all the gearlinkage boots and bushes
Engine/gearbox oil etc

Anything else recommended???

I presume I will need to replace the engine mounting bolts - can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere to get them?

Never done this before so expecting a steep learning curve, if anyone has any handy hints they'd be greatly appreciated!

Dont forget to replace the cambelt tensioner, and the spigot bearing is missing off your list, worth replacing the clutch whilst out, the alternator belt is a ribbed one not a v belt on the 1Y unless your changing to all original stuff. Get yourself a head gasket set which will give you inlet, exhaust and rocker cover plus a few more gaskets. Sump gasket will need to be replaced, your have to modify the top of the pump and sort the dipstick. Check what wiring you have as there are many different configurations.

Give us a call if you have problems as we have done many of these now.

Thanks for the advice Futbus

Fitted it all over the weekend and it's all there apart from a problem with the gearbox linkages - see this thread:

http://archive.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=21398

Going to take the box of and replace my original one - check the clutch etc, refit driveshafts and bleed the system then fingers crossed will all be up and running.

The back of the van is up on ramps at the moment and I'm not sure if I need to prime the Fuel pump to help the fuel delivery and remove air that will have got in now I have it disconnected - or will turning it over a few times get fuel to the injectors and get it going?

Any wise words appreciated as I'm booked on a campsite in St Ives the following week!

Cheers

to help bleed the system, remove the return hose from the pump, it will help pull the fuel through, then reconnect and it should fire in a cuple of turns.
