Water Leak????

Post by DJZ »

I have a 1600D which has lost compression and needs to be rebuilt one day but it goes ok for now except I am losing water from somewhere. There are no signs of a water leak in the engine/pipes or on the floor. I have had it pressure tested and it did not leak anywhere but my refill tank needs topping up everyother day so it must be going somewhere. ANY IDEAS anyone please!!!! :?

head gasket leak!!!! if its ever had the head gasket replaced it should have been re torqued at about 500 miles , it often does not get done,
we had a customer with a 1.6d that was sufering from the same problems,
when we removed the rocker cover two of the head bolts were loose[ and i mean loose] re torqued the head down just to see if it would stop it from loosing water, totaly cured :D he was so lucky!!

I'm probably going to show my ignorance now!!

Is it the same thing with Petrol engine??

I get the same thing with my 1.9l petrol engine. No sign of leak anywhere but I need to check and top-up the level roughly every 10 days.

This engine was new 2 years ago. 15000 miles done on it since!!

It goes down from the maximum line to just above the minimum line is about 15 days.
But I always check it on a weekly basis to make sure it doesn't get too low.
