Over fuelling 2.1

Post by mellowyellow »

hi all i'm new to the camper world. :D
I've recently purchased a 2.1 inj Transporter. She runs really well I drove her all the way from Bognor Regis when i got her, without a prob.(260 miles)
The only thing is she stinks really bad when she first starts up ( definatly pertol). Its over fuelling :x
Any ideas on what the prob could be ?? and how to fix it.. :?
Cool Club by the way.

Had a problem with mine where it would start and run but as soon as you stopped it wouldn't start again because the plugs were black and sooty. ie. major over-fuelling.

I replaced the blue water temp sensor in the thermostat housing and it resolved it. Could be worth a try, they aren't expensive.

You would need to check the wiring to the T2 sensor in the thermostat housing, the sender itself and while at it, have a good go at as many earths as you come across (lots, on the engine (star earth) and n/s bulkhead)...

It could also be a drippy injector

Cheers for the advice i'll have a play in the morning with the sensor and wiring. :D
This may sound daft, but why would the temp sensor make the engine run rich????
I can understand the drippy injector as i had similar problem with MK1 Golf GTI.

Just done a search on forum and found out about the temp sensors...
I take it the blue onetells the injection system when the engines at good runnning temp...therefore if its faulty it will always think the engines cold :D
I do like this forum...its saving me alot of messing about :P
