high revs at start up

Post by skins »

hi - 1981 ac seems to be running very fast at start up. After while and pressing down on the gas a couple of times the engine settles down to a normal speed.
I guess this is the choke setting -but should it do this - and does it need re-setting?

how fast is it ticking over???
you may want to check the linkage to check its free to return (not sticking)and also the state of your throttle return spring . it may be worth greasing up the cable at both ends too.

Yeah sounds like the choke, but don,t worry as mine is like that as well.

When starting try pushing the throttle down slowly as you start it.
When its cold press the peddle first before you start it.
When the engine is hot push the peddle flat down to the floor while starting.
I still have the T25 A/C owners manual and it advises to do this in it.
Starting like this also stops the engine from stalling on cold mornings.
