replacing oil pressure switch

Post by ermie571 »

1.9dg

high/low switch under/around water pump.

It was leaking oil. Found it was coming from sensor. Went to mechanic - replaced like for like - but the like was wrong!!!! (lesson - read wiki FIRST! ) Continual buzzer!!!!
Not sending back to mechanic as not his fault and I don't want to pay again!

Read wiki, and Ghost says its ok to change.....but not sure if this is the 1.9 or 2.1 engine (if they are different??) Have different pressure levels according to wiki:

Low rpm/low pressure sensor - 028 919 081 C (0.3 bar BROWN) - Early original fit?

Low rpm/low pressure sensor - 028 919 081 D (0.25 bar BLUE) - Later replacememt for all .3bar switches

High rpm/low pressure sensor (Petrols) - 068 919 081 A (0.9 bar GREY) - Std. 2.1

High rpm/low pressure sensor (Petrols) - 068 919 081 E (1.8 bar WHITE)

so, I have to change it to the one for a 1.9......

I have worked out I need a 24mm spanner and a torch. It has only just been done, so should come out fairly easily. We've had a look, and it appears that the exhaust /pulley will need to be mobved out the way??

so, can it be done with everything in situ in a 1.9? And am I right in replacing it with the 1.8 sensor??

thanks in advance,
Emma
