Ok to drive with only propshaft?

Post by Ollie »

I have removed the trans axle as CV joints where totally messed up and Viscous was very stiff. The garage that did it removed the prop shaft too, so now I have no working speedometer I found out.

I would like to put back the propshaft, so I get my speedo back in order. (Later I will sort out my Viscous and CV joints.

Will I damage anything, or does it present a problem anyhow, to drive with my prop shaft without the transaxle? I guess this would mean that the visous will "spin" and do nothing other than give me a higher fuel consumption and get my speedo working?

I have not had the prop shaft on for 6 months now. Any Advice on how I should put it on? Any tricks or things to be aware of?

Please excuse me(as I am norwegian) in in case I have used the wrong terms above to describe the part above.

Any goood advices are appreciated! :)

on your syncro itll be fine if you put the front diff in your car with the front to rear prop shaft and no cv joints, the speedo will work and no damage will occur as long as the transmision has oil both ends,cj.
bought some real off roaders!!!!!!!

Installation of the prop shaft

Post by Ollie »

Thanx CJ.

As the position of the bolts where not marked when the prop shaft were taken off, are there any method or recommended way to mount the prop shaft back on to avoid possible vibrations when driving?

If not I guess its just one way to do it: trial and error...
