Buzzer sounds uphill

Post by btwix63 »

Hi.... I recently bought a 1989 T25 diesel 1.7cc. I've read through the forum questions and through the tech help and can't find any answers to why the buzzer sounds sometimes when going up hills. If I change down gear it stops, is this normal? I don't feel I'm labouring the engine but then again I've never driven something this heavy with only 4 gears. Would appreciate any light shed..... thanks Will

Below 2000 rpm, the low-speed low pressure sender(on the head) is sensed, which in your case seems to be going off up hills. Changing down probably ups the revs above 2000 where the higher pressure sender (on the oil filter housing) is sensed... and this is finding sufficient pressure

The low one is about .3bar and the higher one .9 bar, though they can vary a bit depending on model...

Either the LP sender is bad, the dashboard DOPWS wizardry is up the swanny (bad connections) or you genuinely have low oil pressure. If you haven't changed the oil and filter lately, then do so, ensure you use 4.5 litres of oil if that's what's specified.

When hot and hill-climbing and the revs drop below 2000, it is likely though that the oil pressure is dropping enough to trigger a correctly functioning DOPWS system... not uncommon, it doesn't spell the imminent end of your engine usually, but at least see if you can determine the true cause (getting the actual pressure measured at low and high-speed, when the oil is at 80C). IT's a warning though (but a very silly annoying one, that takes your attention away from driving, a beep every ten seconds would have done fine!)

DOPWS is outlined in the Wiki.. worth a read...
