I still remember the first spare wheel carrier I saw on a Syncro, which was in North France in 1991. I loved it then (sad) and love mine now, it's the sort of thing that everytime I walk past it I want to open and close it (very sad) I think it is part of the atraction of Syncro's that they are engineered so well. Good engineering is a joy to behold and that's why I am addicted to the Syncro.
Unsurprisingly VW improved the design for the T4 and put a lovely gas strut on it and self closing latch. I have measured them up and the parts are not transferable.

I just don't get why they are SO expensive

I mean, a Landrover Swingaway is about £110 and does the same job.

But landrovers are 10 a penny themselves and as for engineering well lets not go there.
