How hot are you????

Post by KarlT »

Hi all

Just got my bus on the road.
Went for a small trip around town.
Within a mile the water temp gauge is halfway. Is this normal?
After another mile the oil pressure buzzer is going off.
Pulled over and left it on tick-over buzzer stopped.
Water gauge didn't move much above halfway.
On way back home I could get the buzzer & warning light going by butting on some power. :(

Engine compression is good
Oil doesn't look burnt
Have renewed hoses could I have airlocks? would this cause this? Thought I bleed pretty well but you never know.

Thanks in advance.

them guage is about right.the buzzer could mean you need to replace the sender..is it your oil or water warning light that is coming on....

Hi I have had some diagnostic fun at Aidens today,
have a look at this
http://www.benplace.com/oil_pressure_sender.htm
and
this
http://www.club80-90.co.uk/wiki/index.p ... l_pressure

Your oil pressure may be low the only way to know is to test it, if your oil light is coming on at high revs it will be your Hi rev low oil prssure sensor whih is a bugger to get to, however you can test the wire that comes from it to see if there is 12V over 2000 RPM if there is then oil pressure is OK and its 'just' the monitoring system that is afault.

OK reassured about water temp :)

But with the high oil pressure switch if that was at fault, wouldn't it go off as soon as revs went over 2000 revs?

my oil light was coming on dimly (it should flash) and the alternator light was on. turned out to be a dodgy alternator so may be worthwile just checking the output after the van has been running for a while. Run the van with a helper (do you have a rev counter?) test the output from the hi sensor and see what point it goes off, it may be that your oil pressure is OK to a certain rev and then drops off? it may be some obscure diode or something misbehaving somewhere. Also earths can be suspect take them off and clean them up. The gearbox has an earth too, I have put on a second earth strap to the chassis. 2.1 engine has a bundle of earths on the engine block aswell.
